Re:                  Press Release

On Wednesday March 21, 2012 at about 2:55pm, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that sixty-nine year old Pistol River resident, Russell Walker had fallen off his horse into the Pistol River.  Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with the Curry County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Swift Water Rescue team and the Oregon State Police.  The Pistol River Fire Department was paged out to respond along with Cal Ore Life Flight.

First Responders located Walker hanging onto some brush in the middle of the rain swollen Pistol River.   A resident of Pistol River had waded out into the river to try and assist Walker but was not able to reach him.  SAR rescue swimmer Joe Martin was able to reach Walker and secure him in place.  SAR members Ryan and Brandon McGinnis deployed their small jet powered rescue sled boat about three hundred yards down river and were able to reach Walker and transport him back to shore.  Walker had been in the cold water for almost one hour and once back to safety, declined medical treatment.
